Test results Peugeot 406 (2001) Test Score Rating Adult occupant: 18 Pedestrian: 14 The facelifted 406 sedan was introduced in February 1999, and safety, strength and speed enhancements resulted in improved performance. Where the old 406 had one star and a struck off star, the post facelift models gained three stars. The changes included the new and improved HDI with greater power, torque and along with increased refinement, making it comparatively quiet for a diesel. A downside was an increase in the car's insurance group from 9 to 12. The exterior look was amended as the 406 featured more pronounced ribs, clear headlights, chrome trim and a new honeycomb grill. The rear lights were finished in red with a strip of the car's paint colour across the centre.
The interior was also redesigned to improve comfort and space. New equipment included automated digital climate control/air conditioning on most models except the most basic and a multi function display for warning messages, trip computer, radio and external temperature.
There was a more extensive use of wooden trim, better quality plastics, including soft touch plastics, and in addition some models received electrically folding mirrors, with automatic headlights and wipers. The top of the range Executive model was specified a ten speaker sound system, electrically adjusted and heated leather seats, a memory position for the seats and mirrors, headlight washer jets, a rear sun blind, thicker carpeting, lights in the sun visors, satellite navigation and ambient lighting.
Only had the car since friday, excuse me if this is obvious, can't find it in the manual! Had just gone for a drive, stopped and got out of the car, shut but did not lock the doors. Whilst outside noticed that the stop light and the low-fuel light were flashing, and the illumination for the dash was on (the lights were off). Only the illumination for the speedo dash, not the centre lights or the one above the hazard lights button. This seemed to go on for a couple of minutes, open/closed the doors no difference, but it started up fine and the lights went back to normal. Is it trying to tell me something.?
I have this exact problem! The STOP light and the low fuel light keep flashing and a beep (through the stereo). This happens even when the ignition is off and the key is out. I has rained here heavily recently. The problem occurred after i took the car for a trip to the local market. All worked fine. Drive home, all fine again.
Got in the car after about 2 hours, started it up and then the dash problems started. Many of the dash warning lights are on continuously, none of the dials are working, even when the car is running and the Stop and Fuel lights are flashing. The beeps stop when I turn the stereo off, but the dash still flashes. The indicator lights work, but no reference on the dash that they are working.
The roof is working fine. I'm hoping that it is a temporary fault from water or something. It is a hot day today, I have the roof off and hoping this might sort the problem out. Any thoughts? Kind regards, Dave.

(Fuel and Stop lights flashing with audible beep through the stereo - other warning lights like airbags seatbelt etc on continuously - none of the dials we working even when the car was running fine) I topped up my coolant as it looked low- I added about 1 ltr - still had the problem. I reset the computer by unhooking the battery for 30 seconds and the re-connected it. After i reconnected the battery, jumped in the car and started it - ALL FIXED! Obviously the computer (or some other electrical system) had some sort of error requiring a restart. Problem solved! Problem solved! Started the car, hey ICBM just wanted to know how you are going with this mate! I wonder if the problem trully went away for ever after disconnecting the battery. I have got the same problem happening more often now, but also the while driving, if I turn the left indicator on it automatically switched off (while in the 'on' position) or the normal headlights of the car turn on insead. Just trying to see if i can deduce if the problem is related!
